Audi is a German vehicle manufacturer that designs, technical engineers, produces, markets and sells luxury vehicles. Audi runs worldwide functions from it is headquarters in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. Audi-branded vehicles are produced in nine development facilities worldwide.The beginnings of the company are complex, going back to the first 20th century and the original enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch; and two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer), leading to the foundation of Car Union in 1932. The modern era of Audi essentially started out in the 1960s when Auto Institute was acquired by Vw from Daimler-Benz. After reactivating the Audi brand with the 1965 introduction of the Audi F103 series, Volkswagen merged Auto Institute with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969, thus creating the present day form of the company.
The company name will be based upon the Asian translation of the label of the founder, Aug Horch. "Horch", meaning "listen" in German, becomes "audi" in Latin. The four rings of the Audi logo each represent one of four car companies that banded together to create Audi's predecessor company, Auto Union. Audi's motto is Vorsprung durch Methode, meaning "Advancement through Technology". However, since 2007 Audi USA has used the slogan "Truth in Engineering". Audi, along with THE CAR and Mercedes are among the best-selling luxury auto brands on the earth
